Visit from Sallins GAA Senior Camogie Team Winners

The 1st ever Sallins GAA Senior Camogie Team was born this year and went on to win the final!!

They very kindly came to visit us and have a chat with the senior children in the school about their journey. These ladies explained how they started playing at a young age when there was no camogie team in Sallins and they had to play hurling with the boys.. when they got a little older they played on the school team and won the Division 2 final.. Around this time Camogie began in the GAA club and these girls spent years battling and fighting for their wins.. and this year they got the biggest win they could fight for..they won the final!

Thank you so much ladies for taking the time to come back to your old primary school and tell your very exciting story to the children and answer all the questions and especially for giving so much time to our school senior camogie team. It was greatly appreciated.

Senior Camogie Division 1 2023

Welcome to our Camogie Blog for the 2023 Senior Season!

For our first match our girls played against Naas GaeilScoil . We had home advantage on our brand new Sallin’s GAA Astroturf . We won 6 goals 3 points to 2 goals 0 points!!!
Our 2nd match was part of a blitz day at Naas GAA we played Scoil Bhride first. It was a tough match but our girls came out victorious. Our 3rd match was also part of the blitz we played against Mercy Convent. With one minute left we scored a goal that won us the match 🙂
We were now into the semi finals, after winning all 3 games in Division 1!

The semi final was against Maynooth GaelScoil. It was an exciting match but our girls had a great win, the final score was 3 goals and 6 points to 1 point.

The day of the final came and ended up being postponed due to bad weather! It was rescheduled for the 8th of November.
Before the final we all had to be judged in the mini scientist competition that morning. We then met at the small hall. A big thanks to the junior and senior infants who waved us off with flags and songs!. We got on the bus with our spirits high. We arrived Moorefield GAA and took some photos. Then we had a team talk in the changing rooms. We got onto the pitch and started to warm up.  Then it was time for the match to start. The starting fifteen went onto the pitch to meet Clane. There was great excitement coming from the subs and supporters . We put up a great fight but in the first half but Clane scored the first point, it was 1 point 0 goals to Clane at the end of the first half. The players came off for a drink and had another team talk.
We trooped back onto the pitch for the 2nd half. It was a tight match but then Clane got a sneaky goal 🙁 Our girls put their hands on their head in despair but in the last few minutes we came back and got 2 points. Sadly it wasn’t enough to win us the final. Some subs came on towards the end everyone did so well but the final whistle was blown. We clapped and shed some tears as we we saw Clane lift the trophy. We packed up all our stuff and hopped on the bus, only to find out it was broken down. We had to sit and wait for a replacement bus to take us back to Sallins!!

Although we lost the final we had a great season. A big thanks to our coaches Ms Lancaster, Ms Breen and Mr Burke, who had us out training every Tuesday for the past year in every weather! Thanks to our captain Leah Angland and our vice captain Ciara Daag.

Until next year…………
