In March and April we are planting out our , vegetable seedlings, potatoes, sunflower seeds and caring for and watering the new plants. There is so much work to be done and we are very busy on Wednesday afternoon from 3 to 4 pm.

Last term Mr Kennedy’s 6th class read the novel ‘The London Eye Mystery’. This book is about the search for a thirteen year old boy who went missing on the London Eye. His two cousins Ted and Kat work hard to find him. We thought that it was very enjoyable and interesting and we recommend it.

Seanfhocail
As part of Seachtaine na Gaeilge our school took part in a seanfhocail art competition. Some took on the challenge themselves and the rest were in pairs. We had to illustrate a poster to describe our seanfhocal. When we finished our posters they were put on display and some school staff members chose the best described seanfhocal from each class. On Friday the 15th the winners from each class were announced and they went to the small hall to receive their prize.

On Friday 22nd of March,We hosted a coffee morning in Ms. O’Connor’s room in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. If anyone wanted to come along for a treat and a drink, they would need to donate a minimum of 1 euro . These are some of the things we baked; Rice Krispie buns, Flapjacks and decorated digestive biscuits.
We counted the donated money and people donated a total of €143.20 which is a great amount and we did not expect to get this much. Each and every penny will help those in need .
The Coffee Morning was a great success! Thank you to all who participated!

This March Mr.Kennedy’s 6th class were studying length in maths. We went out to our school field in groups of threes and fours and measured it. We split the field into sides and named each side A, B, C, D etc. We estimated and measured all of the 7 sides. After we measured we came back inside and added up our measurements.
The next day we started a scaled map of the field. In order to do this we divided the measurements by 1000 which was a scale(cm) of 1:1000 to fit on A3 paper. Then we did a scale of 1:500 and then 1:200. We really enjoyed studying length.

On Friday the 15th of March every class in the school went out to the Senior Yard. We all danced to the music for ‘Shoe the Donkey’ and ‘Ballaí Luimní’ (The Walls of Limerick). Everyone had been practicing for the past few weeks, so we were all excited to get out and bust our moves!!!
We got to dance to both songs twice. Everybody really enjoyed this experience and we hope it happens next year.

This term, Mr Kennedy’s sixth class are currently reading the International Bestseller ‘Wonder’ written by R.J. Palacio. It’s about a boy who can’t blend in but was born to stand out .This book has power to move hearts and change minds and wreaks emotional havoc.
The main characters are Auggie, Via, Mom ,Dad, Jack, Julian and Summer. We learn how they go through their daily lives and how they cope with their problems.
The Bookseller said it was “Tremendously moving… an uplifting, hopeful and important book” and we agree.
