U13 Boys Hurling Group Match

Yesterday, the Boys’ Under 13 Hurling Team played their 3rd match against Rathmore N.S. From the start both teams were strong, with little points being scored. Then Sallins scored the opening goal to put their team ahead by one goal and two points. Before half time Sallins and Rathmore both traded points making the half-time score 1-3 to 0-1 in Sallins’ favour.

In the second half, Rathmore started strong scoring two goals and a point. Sallins woke up and scored a point of their own. Rathmore scored another goal bringing the scores even closer. Sallins scored a goal, edging them ahead. They then pushed on and scored another goal and two points. Rathmore scored their third goal of the match, only for Sallins to counter attack and scored a goal and a further three points. That is how it ended, with the scoreline 5-9 to 4-2 in Sallins’ favour, meaning Sallins had won, but the main thing was that we had a good time.

GAA Training

On Wednesday, a GAA instructor came into our school. His name was Anthony. We started off the exercise by doing some warm ups. The first warm up was where we all lined up and walked around the court, and Anthony would call out things like “sideways”, or “high knees”, and we had to do the action. We then did ‘solos’. We got quite good at these! We then had to solo and kick the ball from the other end to the next person in the line. This made us try to be accurate. We surprised Anthony because as  a class we did really well! We’re looking forward to the next session. We’ll keep you updated.

Cooking With Aquaponics

On Monday, Mrs MacNamara got the cooking group together and used some plants from the Aquaponics tank. They also used some of the plants that 6th class had grown from seed. They used dill to make dill and cheddar scones. They also made green leaf tartlets. They were delicious!

Music Group

Our school has a music group. All members meet every Wednesday to practise all the songs. We have learned lots of songs including ‘The Cup Song.’ More recently we have learned songs like ‘The EastEnders Theme Song’ and ‘It’s time’ by Imagine Dragons. Some people play the guitar and some people play the piano. There are some traditional instruments like the fiddle, the concertina and the flute. There are lots of recorders and some ukeleles. Some people play the glockenspiel. These instruments are sound very good when they are all together. The music group once went to Alexandra College in Dublin to perform in a show. We all really enjoyed it. We also played in the P.E hall for the whole school.  The music group is a great addition to our school!!
